Copper, Antique Faux Tin Tiles
They’re an old fashioned home decor accessory which is making a comeback. Tin ceiling tiles are an attractive addition to any room and easy for the DIY homeowner to install on their own. While they were truly innovative when they were first introduced in the middle of the 19th century, today they are becoming a hot new trend.
When they were first introduced they provided an inexpensive decorative alternative to the decorative plaster ceilings often used by Europeans. The new tiles could be mass produced with some of the same intricate details that could be found with fancy plaster work. They were easy to install and used in homes and businesses. They fell out of fashion with the introduction of drywall and the move to simpler home decor. They are now making a comeback as many of the old ones that have been found have well withstood the test of time.
Home owners are now asking their contractors and home centers for the use of these tiles in their remodeling jobs. New home builders even include them as an incentive to sell their new homes, while interior designers are really welcoming the comeback and the options it gives them in decorating a space. Many of the old patterns found in them from the past are now being recreated, along with custom designs requested by designers and homeowners.
While they are often painted to mimic the look of plaster, the look of the original tin is gaining in popularity. Another new trend with tiles is the additions of copper, silver, and antique finishes. They come in a wide array of designs and quality, and it is best to use the best grade metal you can afford. They can come pre-finished or unfinished so that you can paint them to match the rest of your interior.
